The Football Association of Singapore (FAS) announced that the 2020 AIA Community Shield will serve as a platform to support those who have been affected by the ongoing COVID-19 situation in Singapore.
Bonding and Shielding the Community Through Football
Together with Tampines Rovers FC and Hougang United FC, who will face off tomorrow evening in the traditional curtain-raiser to the Singapore Premier League (SPL) season, the FAS will be making a collective donation to The Courage Fund.
The FAS will match donations of $5,000 each from Tampines and Hougang, and include the gate proceeds as part of the total donation to The Courage Fund, which is facilitated by Community Chest and National Council of Social Service (NCSS).
During the lead-up to the Community Shield, there was serious consideration as to whether the match at Jalan Besar Stadium should proceed as planned in light of the DORSCON Orange level.
However, the FAS ultimately decided it was an opportune time to step up and show our unequivocal support to the healthcare workers battling diligently at the frontlines of the outbreak.
