The ‘BIG’ Newcastle United takeover to be announced in the coming days, and while so many Geordies are very excited about, not all of them are elated just yet.
This boils down to one very obvious reason: Takeover talks are nothing new at Tyneside and with several deals broken down over the years, this Newcastle fan (the writer) will wait until it is confirmed before celebrating.
However, besides the obvious excitement of getting Mike Ashley out of the club, a squad shake up is what most Geordies want right now.
With that, here are some of the top signings Newcastle fans really want right now:
A bit of a farfetched target, Mbappe is one of European football’s brightest talents and has already achieved so much in his brief time in the spotlight. With three French league titles, a bunch of individual accolades and a World Cup to his name, Mbappe ultimately carries a colossal price tag — $225 million to be exact.
Toon boss Steve Bruce signed the Scot 2018 during his time at Villa and previously described the midfielder as one of his “best ever signings”. McGinn has performed well this season and Villa face losing some of their top talent if they are relegated from the Premier League.
A number of meetings have apparently taken place over video-messaging platform Zoom, with the club hopeful just one big name signing can lure either Pochettino or Allegri. Cavani wants to stay in Europe if he leaves Paris Saint-Germain, while Napoli talisman Mertens was linked with a move to the Premier League in the January transfer window.
Since news of the takeover emerged, several big names have been linked with moves to St James’ Park. But Griezmann is by far the biggest of the lot. The 29-year-old has struggled to hit his Atletico Madrid heights for Barcelona since his £107.6m transfer last summer. The French International has managed just eight goals in 26 league appearances this season.
Lyon’s president Jean-Michel Aulas has reaffirmed his side’s desire to hold onto the striker, but Newcastle were said to have sent scouts to watch Moussa Dembele earlier this month. Now it is reported that Steve Bruce would ‘love to compete’ for the Lyon striker.
