How Does It Feel To Be A Singaporean Liverpool Fan This Year?

Liverpool have finally ended their 30-year wait for a 19th top-flight title after trumping Manchester City in the Premier League, with games remaining to be played.

Liverpool have enjoyed a stunning season that has seen them beaten 3 times in the league. Their unstoppable march towards the league title was temporarily halted by the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic back in March, with the Reds just two wins from glory.

Despite all the ups, and some downs, Liverpool fans in Singapore are elated beyond words. Here are some of their thoughts on the Reds claiming their first EPL title in 30 years:

Fan #1

“I’m 57 and enjoyed the halcyon years of the 70’s and 80’s. After several dalliances with bad managers and owners, somehow the club rediscovered its heart and in Jürgen Klopp found an honest, decent human being we can all relate to. And here we are: English, European and World champions. I’ve lived through the good and the bad. And we’re back on our perch.”

Fan #2

“As a 100% biased Liverpool fan, I would rank them equal to or above Man City 2017-2018. The hope is that they build a squad that can go deeper into Cups and build a dynasty like United did in the 90s. That would make them the greatest Premier League team ever in my books.”

Fan #3

“We need several players. We’ve romped to the league, but our squad’s thin and our performance in the cups has been disappointing. We badly need a creative attacking midfielder. Firmino and Salah need competition, Origi isn’t good enough and the jury’s out on Minamino. Someone like Adama Traoré would be fantastic. I think we’ve got enough quality in our academy to cover our defence, especially if Neco Williams is able to fill in at left-back. I expect at least one arrival, but I don’t expect a net spend of more than £20m.”

We spoke to Rajbir Singh – the man in-charge of the Liverpool concept stores in Singapore – to find out his thoughts about Liverpool winning the EPL. He is arguably the biggest Liverpool fan in this country; I mean, come on; he opened a shop for his favourite football team – can it get bigger than that?!
