The UEFA Champions League resumed this week and the excitement was high as ever with the top clubs in Europe fighting to win the continental competition.
Club Brugge 1-5 Manchester City
19-year-old Cole Palmer got on the scoresheet as Man City comprehensively beat their Champions League Group A rivals Club Brugge on Tuesday night. Joao Cancelo and Kyle Walker also got goals as City recovered from their defeat to PSG in their last group game. Hans Vanaken netted a consolation for Brugge late on and Raheem Sterling missed multiple chances to score a goal of his own.
Ajax 4-0 Dortmund
The match against the Germans started with a bang — in the 11th minute, the pressure resulted in the 1-0, when a free-kick by Dusan Tadic was deflected by Marco Reus into his own net. Ajax did not let up, though, and before halftime, Daley Blind slammed home a volley to make it 2-0. The Amsterdammers picked up where they left off at the start of the second half, with the Germans under pressure from the first minute. Thanks to two more from Antony and Sébastien Haller, Erik ten Hag’s team cruised to a 4-0 victory.
Manchester United 3-2 Atalanta
Manchester United came from 2-0 down at half-time to defeat Atalanta 3-2. United were staring down the barrel of a 5th loss in eight matches and were booed by some fans as they trudged off at halftime trailing by two goals, only for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to storm back memorably. Marcus Rashford struck and Harry Maguire lashed home a leveller, setting up a box-office finish that Cristiano Ronaldo delivered with a powerful header from Luke Shaw’s cross.
