The English Premier League (EPL) league table continues to get intense with each passing matchday. This past weekend produced some interesting results.
Leeds United 1-4 Arsenal
Arsenal further consolidated their place in the top four as Gabriel Martinelli’s double helped them to a 4-1 victory over depleted Leeds United. In the only Premier League game to take place on Saturday after a raft of coronavirus-enforced postponements, Arsenal ended a run of three successive away league defeats in style as Leeds suffered another hammering following a 7-0 thrashing at Manchester City.

Newcastle 0-4 Man City
City took the lead on just five minutes after Ruben Dias took full advantage of some questionable Toon defending to head the visitors in front from close range. They doubled their lead on midway through the first half courtesy of an excellent solo-run and finish from Joao Cancelo. Newcastle were seemingly denied a stonewall penalty shortly after Cancelo’s goal when Ederson wiped out Ryan Fraser, but nothing was awarded, much to the anger of the St James’ Park crowd. Riyad Mahrez’s side-footed volley and a late goal from Raheem Sterling, put the game beyond any doubt in the second half – a result for The Blues that extends their lead at the summit to four points.
Tottenham 2-2 Liverpool
Tottenham and Liverpool played out one of the games of the season so far as Spurs returned from their Covid-19 crisis. Antonio Conte’s men made a dream start, with Harry Kane slotting in after a superb through ball from Ndombele, but the Reds hit back through Diogo Jota and Andy Robertson. Son Heung-min was on hand to tap in the equaliser as Conte’s men stormed back, with Robertson seeing red for a wild challenge shortly after.
