The English Premier League (EPL) league table continues to get intense with each passing matchday. This past weekend produced some interesting results.
Norwich City 0-5 Arsenal
Bukayo Saka scored a brace as Arsenal got the better of relegation candidates Norwich City at Carrow Road. The Gunners were able to make light work of Norwich City on Boxing Day. Saka scored in either half as he continued his positive form. Kieran Trippier, Alexandre Lacazette and Emile Smith Rowe also scored as Arsenal got five. The result means Arsenal can toast back-to-back away league wins for the first time this season and enjoy their leftover turkey sitting six points clear inside the Champions League places.
Ferran Torres’ rise at Manchester City
Check out Ferran Torres’ impressive start to life at Manchester City. The attacker helped Pep Guardiola’s team to the Premier League in 2020-21 season.
Man City 6-3 Leicester City
A terrific match at the Etihad Stadium saw Manchester City run out 6-3 winners against Leicester City to move six points clear at the top of the Premier League and you can watch the match highlights here. The game looked all but over as City led 4-0 at the interval but Leicester came back at the hosts to give them a scare scoring three goals in a ten minute spell after the break. The Foxes hope didn’t last long however as Pep Guardiola’s team moved up a gear to score another two goals for a deserved victory.
Newcastle 1-1 Man Utd
Newcastle’s thrilling performance was only good enough for a point as a poor Manchester United scraped a 1-1 draw at St James’ Park. Allan Saint-Maximin’s fine first-half goal had given Newcastle the lead in the seventh minute and they were well worth that advantage for over an hour as Ralf Rangnick’s side struggled. But substitute Edinson Cavani scored a scarcely-deserved equaliser and it required some typical heroics from David de Gea to deny Miguel Almiron a late Newcastle winner.
