English Premier League 2021/22 Season | Matchday 23 Roundup

The English Premier League (EPL) league table continues to get intense with each passing matchday. This past weekend produced some interesting results.

Man Utd 1-0 West Ham

Marcus Rashford was the late hero for Manchester United as his stoppage-time goal saw them beat West Ham 1-0 and leap above the Hammers into fourth. In a game that looked certain to be heading for a draw, all three of Rangnick’s substitutes combined as Anthony Martial played in Edinson Cavani, who crossed for Rashford to provide the finishing touch which broke West Ham’s resistance at Old Trafford. Rangnick has now picked up 17 points from a possible 24 as United’s interim boss.

Crystal Palace 1-3 Liverpool

Liverpool needed the help of a controversial late penalty to survive a second-half fightback from Crystal Palace as they closed the gap on Manchester City with a 3-1 victory at Selhurst Park. The Reds dominated the first half and were two-up at the break thanks to goals from Virgil van Dijk and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but a much-improved showing saw the Eagles hit back through Odsonne Edouard after the restart. However, Fabinho’s 89th-minute spot-kick sealed the win as the visitors took advantage of City’s 1-1 draw at Southampton on Saturday evening to move within nine points of the defending champions at the top of the Premier League, with a game in hand.

Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham

Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea side picked up all three points at home to Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur. Right from the first whistle, Thomas Tuchel’s side were eager to catch the eye of many. Despite their pressure, the Blues were unable to break through in the first half. In the second half, Hakim Ziyech’s wonder strike gave Chelsea an early lead. Just minutes after, Thiago Silva netted to double the Blues’ lead and ensure all three points.
