English Premier League 2021/22 Season | Matchday 24 Roundup

The English Premier League (EPL) league table continues to get intense with each passing matchday. This past weekend produced some interesting results.

Newcastle 1-0 Aston Villa

Newcastle United made it three wins on the bounce with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon. The only goal of the game arrived on the half-hour mark as skipper for the day Kieran Trippier smashed home a free kick from the edge of the box to the delight of the Toon Army. The win takes Eddie Howe’s side four points clear of the drop zone and gives them real belief that they are going to win their fight to stay in the Premier League.

Burnley 0-1 Liverpool

Liverpool dug deep to secure victory away to Burnley after a difficult afternoon against Sean Dyche’s side, with Fabinho’s first-half goal the difference. Jurgen Klopp named a strong starting XI for the trip to Turf Moor, with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane lining up together for the first time in more than a month. Burnley had the measure of their high-flying opponents in the early stages, though, and could have gone in front when Wout Weghorst fluffed his lines with only Alisson to beat, while the Reds keeper also made a big save from Jay Rodriguez. However, the Reds got themselves in front shortly before half-time, with Fabinho converting at the second attempt after Mane headed corner into the Brazilian’s path.

Rangnick praises Ronaldo: ‘The best performance by him in the last weeks’

Manchester United’s manager spoke after his side victory against Brighton & Hove Albion. Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes grant Man Utd three points.

Man Utd 2-0 Brighton (Matchday 18)

Jadon Sancho is beginning to find his groove, but Harry Maguire looks uncomfortable against pace and Fred had a game to forget, while Yves Bissouma’s mistake sparked Brighton’s downfall. Manchester United climbed up to fourth in the Premier League table after a 2-0 win over 10-man Brighton on Tuesday night. Cristiano Ronaldo and Bruno Fernandes’ second-half goals saw the Red Devils scrape past a Seagulls side who performed admirably, even when Lewis Dunk was sent off too.
