Klopp on players workload and World Cup concerns
Check out Jurgen Klopp’s pre match press conference ahead of Liverpool’s Premier League clash with newly promoted Fulham. The German manager voiced his concerns about player welfare with an extremely busy schedule due to the World Cup in Qatar.
Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw by newly-promoted Fulham in their opening game of the 2022/23 Premier League campaign at Craven Cottage.
The Premier League newcomers started the brighter of the two sides in west London and took the lead when Aleksandar Mitrovic climbed above Trent Alexander-Arnold at the back post to powerfully head Kenny Tete’s cross past Alisson in the 32nd minute.
Jurgen Klopp’s side trailed at the break but sprung out of the traps in the second half, as club-record signing Darwin Nunez netted his maiden Premier League goal with a clever flick past Marek Rodak to draw the Reds level in the 64th minute.
Yet Fulham responded superbly and Mitrovic regained the hosts’ from the penalty spot just eight minutes later after the Serbian striker was brought down by Virgil van Dijk.
However, Mohamed Salah carried over his fine run of form from last season and equalised for Liverpool with nine minutes remaining as he slotted the ball past Rodak.
The result is a huge disappointment for the Reds who host Crystal Palace next up. Meanwhile, Fulham – who have been relegated in their last three Premier League campaigns – travel to Wolves next week.
