Talking Cock Session: Transfers Heating Up Towards The End Of Window

In our weekly talk cock sessions, we look at the latest transfer news, gossips, and highlights that have football fans all over the world buzzing with excitement.

Ajax winger Antony linked to Man Utd

Despite agreeing a deal in principle with Real Madrid for world-class defensive midfielder Casemiro, Manchester United’s summer spending is showing no signs of slowing down. Another player heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford is Ajax winger Antony. Previously a player for new manager Erik ten Hag, the 22-year-old Brazilian is believed to be eager to be reunited with his former boss. In fact, the Red Devils are preparing to launch an eye-watering £85m (€100m) offer – a bid Ajax would surely find incredibly hard to turn down. However, as the summer transfer window reaches its dramatic conclusion, although there remains a lot of uncertainty around the talented South American following suggestions he has ‘gone on strike’.

Tottenham target Trevoh Chalobah

Chelsea star Trevoh Chalobah is reportedly in the minds of Tottenham transfer chiefs as the north London club aim to add to their centre-back ranks before the transfer window closes. But with Romero out for over a month with an injury sustained after the Lilywhites’ tie against Chelsea at the weekend, attention has turned to more options – with the claim that Chalobah is being considered by Antonio Conte. The youngster is concerned about the potential signing of Wesley Fofana, who is likely to join the club for a fee of around £80m from Leicester City before the end of the window. Having only started in 10 games in 2022, he would be knocked down to fifth or sixth choice in the pecking order which would see game time dwindle massively at Stamford Bridge.

Man Utd eyeing Achraf Hakimi

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag could finally replace right-back flop Aaron Wan-Bissaka after his mediocre spell at Old Trafford with a move reportedly being lined up for Paris Saint-Germain star Achraf Hakimi. Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot have failed to fully impress since coming into the fold over the last year, and thus they are one of the unfortunate victims of an Old Trafford rebuild. United’s recruitment team have now prioritised the signing of a right-back with the signings of Christian Eriksen, Tyrell Malacia and Lisandro Martinez having been confirmed and Casemiro’s capture announced. And Hakimi has been earmarked as the perfect signing for that role, suggesting that a deal could be done in the next 11 days of the transfer window.

West Ham close to signing Emerson

West Ham are close to making their seventh signing of the summer as they are on the verge of reaching an agreement with London rivals Chelsea to sign full-back Emerson. Although there are still some final details to iron out, the Hammers will be expected to pay at least £13m for the Italy international. Given his modest price tag, it seems David Moyes is the manager getting the better deal. Emerson, 28, has barely featured for the Blues since his arrival from Roma four years ago, but that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t join Moyes’ side equipped with a wealth of experience. Surprisingly, even though Tuchel obviously doesn’t rate him, Emerson is one of Europe’s most successful players. Not only has the 28-year-old won both the Europa League and Champions League, but he has a European Championship trophy to his name too.

Everton ready to release Dele Alli

Everton will not stand in Dele’s way if he chooses to depart the club, with the former English international wanted by Turkish side Besiktas. Although a proposal has been put forward, Everton, who will allow Dele to decide his fate, have not yet heard back on what the midfielder’s preference is. Time is running out though. There are just under two weeks left in this summer’s transfer window, so whatever the 26-year-old decides, he has to hurry up, especially from Everton’s point of view. The Toffees will need to either plan for his inclusion or his exit. During the latter stages of his Tottenham Hotspur career, Dele fell so far out of favour that a move to Goodison Park seemed his final chance of salvation.

Chelsea want to sign Harry Maguire

In fairness, Thomas Tuchel has built an effective system that allows Thiago Silva to shine without his lack of pace being exposed on a consistent basis, so there may be some thinking that he would thrive at the centre of a back three in a team that plays more like a cohesive unit. This potential transfer would also be a swap deal with Christian Pulisic moving in the other direction, so it might actually suit United because there won’t be a transfer fee that can be used to highlight how much they lost on the initial fee they paid for Maguire. Pulisic would also give them a boost in a position of need, but it appears that Chelsea are still pushing for Wesley Fofana, so this has to be their backup option rather than Tuchel’s biggest wish. If United could get rid of him then it would solve the constant issue of having to include him in the team due to his status, but it was always hard to see anybody being willing to take him on.
