English Premier League 2022/23 Season | Matchday 15 Roundup

The English Premier League (EPL) league table continues to get intense with each passing matchday. This past weekend produced some interesting results.

Man City 2-1 Fulham

There was late drama as Erling Haaland had a goal disallowed with Manchester City left looking set to be left frustrated at the Etihad Stadium, only for the striker to still find the net again from the penalty spot as Pep Guardiola’s side claimed a stunning 2-1 victory in stoppage-time over Fulham in their Premier League clash. What a dramatic late victory and it could prove to be a crucial one. With Arsenal not used to being at the top of the table after years of struggle, City had the chance to put them under pressure and they took it – eventually. The win now leaves them top ahead of Arsenal’s visit to Chelsea on Sunday.

Aston Villa 3-1 Man United

Welcome to the Premier League, Unai Emery. In his first game since taking the reins of Aston Villa, his side turned things on to take down Manchester United at Villa Park. United have been on a decent run of form under Eric ten Hag, but they were second best by some distance as Villa hauled themselves up the table on a frustrating day for the Red Devils and superb one for Emery. With Varane set to be out until after the World Cup, Ten Hag has a dilemma over who to partner with Lisandro Martinez. But overall it was a sluggish display from the entire United team, bar Martinez, and had shades of last season.

Southampton 1-4 Newcastle

Newcastle’s sensational form continued on Sunday with a 4-1 hammering of Southampton at St Mary’s, which took them third. However, injuries to Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson took off some of the gloss. Miguel Almiron is in the form of his career and it was his eighth goal in 13 appearances – equalling his best ever season tally already – that got Newcastle started on the South Coast. The victory took Newcastle to nine matches unbeaten and up to third in the league, leaving their opposition 18th. It was also a match which marked one year in charge for manager Eddie Howe, who couldn’t have had much to complain about at full-time.
