Xabi Alonso’s success at Bayer Leverkusen has not gone unnoticed.

The Spaniard has brought Bayer into contention for a title challenge in the Bundesliga, but with his links to Real Madrid and Liverpool from his playing days, the Spaniard could soon be at the centre of a tug-of-war between the two clubs.

The problem with making an unbeaten start to the season, of sitting top of both the Bundesliga and your Europa League group while playing eye-catching football is that people tend to notice.

It’s why Bayer Leverkusen coach Xabi Alonso is top of Real Madrid’s wish list to replace Brazil-bound Carlo Ancelotti next summer and touted as a potential replacement for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool one day.

The 41-year-old former midfielder – who won 17 major trophies with Spain, Real Madrid, Liverpool and Bayern Munich during an illustrious playing career – is now the most exciting up-and-coming coach in world football.

The hope in this particular corner of Germany is that they can shed the club’s cruel ‘Neverkusen’ nickname by winning the first trophy since 1993 before Alonso is spirited away.

Newcastle are said to be “interested” in signing Ferran Torres from Barcelona

Newcastle are reportedly “interested” in signing Ferran Torres from Barcelona.

The 23-year-old left Manchester City to join Barcelona in January 2022 and has scored 19 goals in 87 appearances at the Spanish giants.

According to the report “cash-strapped Barcelona are looking to offload several players to help balance the books, and Torres is allegedly one of those they would look to cash in on”.

Newcastle ‘would be interested’ in allowing the attacker to return to the Premier League.

Newcastle prepared tp offer of around £35m would be enough to secure the services of the star.

Barca chiefs feel that Torres’ performances ‘have been clearly below expectations’ and that he ‘could be one of the first sales’ they make to fund a new raft of signings themselves.

Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana is reportedly being targeted by Manchester United

Manchester United are reportedly “continuing to monitor” Monaco’s Youssouf Fofana as a possible long-term replacement for Casemiro.

Casemiro has endured a difficult season so far in United’s midfield and the 31-year-old has now been ruled out until the new year with an injury.

Fofana has 13 caps for France and has been a standout player for Monaco since signing from Strasbourg in January 2020.

A report in the Manchester Evening News suggests Erik ten Hag’s side are keeping tabs on the 24-year-old midfielder.

The 75-cap international [Casemiro] was never going to be a long-term solution for United and, as such, they still have an eye on the market.

Manchester Evening News understands the club are initially planning to make four big signings next summer, including another midfielder.

United continue to assess their options. The 24-year-old AS Monaco player is valued at around €25million.

Arsenal is one of several clubs keen on Yarek Gasiorowski

Yarek Gasiorowski is attracting attention from Arsenal, who have long tracked the teenager at Valencia.

The 18-year-old is a defender, but has scored a hat-trick for the under-19 Spanish national team in the past, and has a release clause of £17.5 million.

Arsenal are reportedly planning a transfer swoop for a defender that scored a hat-trick for Spain’s Under-19 side,” the paper claims.

Mikel Arteta’s team are hoping to once again battle for the Premier League title this term as well as continue their progression in the Champions League.

Arsenal have tried and failed to land the 18-year-old centre-back in the past due to Brexit regulations regarding foreigners.

Gasiorowski is under contract at Valencia until 2025 and that package also has the option to be extended until 2027.

It also contains a release of £17.5m, which will rise once he hits certain appearance milestones.
