Manchester City are being warned they could face their D-day over financial fair play as early as next year – and “all hell will break loose” if they lose

Football is still reeling from Everton’s sanction for breaching FFP rules.

And football finance expert Stefan Borson said: “There are too many things that ‘might’ happen if City are found against. It will be very serious — all hell will break loose.

“It will turn into an enormous story — not just in respect of football but much wider than that. So many parties will be implicated.

“It will be an incredibly explosive situation.”

Lawyer Borson, who was previously an adviser at the Etihad, insisted that demotion would be on the cards if City and Chelsea were found guilty.

He added: “From a football perspective, it’s impossible to think City would not be relegated if all of these things were found against them.”

When City were charged with 115 FFP rule breaches in February, there were claims it could take up to four years for the results of the investigation to be known.

Borson says it could be sooner, adding: “The hearing is likely to be in 2024 at some point.

The Premier League are bound to be concerned about what they would do if City are found guilty.

“The fact the League charged City with such serious matters shows you this is a very bold move.”

Chelsea have admitted they broke rules in the Abramovich era — but hope the fact a new regime is now in place will protect them.

That is highly unlikely according to Borson, who believes they are also in danger of breaking profit and sustainability rules following new US owner Todd Boehly’s £1billion transfer splurge since he took over.

Dusan Vlahovic is attracting the attention of Arsenal, but the Juventus striker could cost Mikel Arteta’s side £50 million

Arsenal are reportedly “set to make another move” for Juventus forward Dusan Vlahovic.

The Gunners have been linked with Brentford striker Ivan Toney but are said to be prioritising former Fiorentina talisman Vlahovic.

Arsenal were linked to Vlahovic in the summer, and last January, having missed out on the chance to sign him when he opted to join Juventus almost two years ago.

But it appears Mikel Arteta and Edu are set to make another move for the 23-year-old, according to Tutto Juve.

Vlahovic has been out of sorts since joining Juventus, although he does have four goals in 10 appearances this season.

That means the Serie A giants could be open to selling – if the price is right.

Juventus are understood to want around £50 million for Vlahovic, who has also attracted interest from Chelsea and Real Madrid.”

Bayern Munich have learned Manchester United could be open to selling Raphael Varane in January.

Erik ten Hag has dropped the defender for “tactical reasons” of late with Harry Maguire back in the fold, and now Varane could be exploring his options a little over two years after joining United from Real Madrid.

German champions Bayern are said to be weighing up whether to make a move for the Frenchman, although money could be an issue.

A deal would likely cost in the region of €20m (£17.5m) to €30m (£26.2m). Bayern would also struggle to afford Varane’s annual salary, which reportedly stands at £17m.

While it remains to be seen if Varane will angle for a transfer if he continues to play second fiddle to the likes of Maguire and Evans, the World Cup winner did hint he would be open to a Real Madrid return earlier this year.

Real Madrid have been linked with Timo Werner

Real Madrid could make a U-turn on their January transfer window plans and look to sign a striker following the injury to Vinicius Junior.

Widely linked with Kylian Mbappe, a potential transfer in the summer, Real were set to have a quiet window until the news that Vinicius could be out for almost three months.

As a result, and amid fears an injury to Rodrygo or Joselu would leave them even light, the club are considering their options in January – which includes signing RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner.

There were warning signs at the beginning of the season of the limitations that Ancelotti’s squad had in attack, with only three players. With Vinicius’ injury, that fragility is revealed in a team that aspires to win the four competitions in which it participates.

They are aware that bringing in a top player at that time is a complicated task… Werner is not offering the best version of himself after returning to the Bundesliga from Chelsea to join Leipzig.

West Ham will attempt to sign Dominic Solanke

West Ham will attempt to sign Dominic Solanke from Bournemouth in January.

Solanke has scored six goals in 12 Premier League goals this campaign in a struggling Cherries side, while West Ham are searching for a replacement for Gianluca Scamacca, who left for Atalanta in the summer.

The Irons made a £40 million approach for Solanke in August but were knocked back. It would take a much bigger bid for the Cherries to even consider letting their star forward leave.

The player – capped once by England – still has more than three years to run on his current deal at the Vitality Stadium.

Hammers chiefs would love to bring him to East London but if they cannot persuade Bournemouth to sell, they will look at other targets.

Paris Saint-Germain misfit Hugo Ekitike, 21, and 27-year-old former Chelsea striker Timo Werner are among the names on Moyes’ wish list.
