Mauga is here! Overwatch 2 – Season 8: Call of the Hunt Begins

Exciting new updates and features await players in Overwatch 2’s latest season, including the introduction of the new Tank Hero Mauga, festive holiday events, and a collection of new, beastly skins.

Mauga Makes His Mark in Overwatch 2

Blizzard Entertainment’s Overwatch 2 Season 8, titled “Call of the Hunt,” is now live, bringing thrilling updates and new content to the game’s enthusiastic player base. The season’s highlight is the introduction of Mauga, a formidable Tank hero, who made a splash during his preview at BlizzCon 2023 and is now a permanent fixture in the game. Mauga, equipped with dual chainguns and a range of powerful abilities like Overrun, Cardiac Overdrive, and the Cage Fight ultimate, promises to reshape the game’s meta. Adjustments post-BlizzCon, including enhanced chaingun power and added Armor HP, have been made to optimize his performance. Players can delve into the details in the latest patch notes.

Battle of the Beasts: A New Challenge

This season is themed around beast hunting, featuring the innovative 4v4 PvPvE mode, “The Battle of the Beasts.” Players engage in intense brawls with Grand Beasts, either protecting their own or striving to defeat the opponent’s beast. Mauga is available for free in this mode, alongside other hunter-themed heroes. This limited-time event, running through December 19, offers players the chance to earn unique cosmetics, including a highlight intro for Mauga, a new name card, and a substantial 25,000 Battle Pass XP boost.

Weapon Skins: A New Customization Frontier

Season 8 introduces “Weapon Skins,” starting with the Hard Light theme for heroes like Rein, Reaper, and Mercy. These skins, complete with custom visuals and sound effects, signify the beginning of a new era in hero customization. Player feedback will be pivotal as Blizzard expands this feature with more skins and customization options in future seasons.

Winter Wonderland and Hero Mastery Courses

The festive season in Overwatch 2 kicks off with the Winter Wonderland event, starting December 20. This includes new Holiday skins, Mei’s Snowball Offensive, Yeti Hunt, and an opportunity for players to unlock a legendary skin. Additionally, Hero Mastery courses are set to enhance the skills of players with Echo, Genji, Mei, D.Va, and Lucio starting January 3, featuring new challenges and rewards.

Master Your Skills with Echo, Genji, Mei, D.Va, and Lucio

The next wave of Hero Mastery courses is coming starting next year on January 3 in a five-week event featuring a new course for a new hero each week, plus new challenges and cosmetic rewards to earn as well!

Starting in Season 8, we’re introducing a new feature for Hero Mastery replays: Bookmarks! That’s right, you’ll be able to mark specific places in the replay time bar for quick viewing.

Also, due to improvements we’ve made to the mode since its initial launch, the leaderboards for all current Hero Mastery courses have been reset. Don’t worry if you already hold a spot in the current Top 500; we’ll have the old leaderboards brought back to view in a future update.

Overwatch 2 – Season 8: Call of the Hunt launches on December 5.
