Virgil van Dijk has admitted he’s not sure whether to seek a new Liverpool deal after Jurgen Klopp leaves the club, with the club captain’s contract set to expire in 2025.

Liverpool spent a then world record £75 million for a defender to bring Van Dijk to Anfield from Southampton in January 2018, but the Dutchman quickly became an integral figure at Anfield.

The Dutchman played a pivotal role as Liverpool won the Champions League in 2019, before starring again the following season as the Reds ended their wait for a Premier League title.

Van Dijk took over as captain this season after Jordan Henderson’s departure to Saudi Arabia but he admitted he’s not sure whether he wants to continue with the team after Klopp’s exit.

Klopp announced he will leave Anfield at the end of the season before Liverpool’s 5-2 FA Cup win over Norwich.
The Reds remain in contention for a domestic treble as they sit top of the Premier League, meet Chelsea in the League Cup final in February, and face Watford or Southampton in the FA Cup fifth round. They are also through to the Europa League knockouts.

The German promised to take time out before returning to managerial life, with coaches Pep Lijnders, Peter Krawietz and Vitor Matos, and sporting director Jorg Schmadtke also heading for the exit door.

Van Dijk is out of contract in 2025 alongside Mohammed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is optimistic that the club can return to competing for top honours under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s stewardship

Casemiro believes that Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s “winning mentality” can elevate Manchester United back to the “highest possible level”.

The Brazilian cited Ineos chief Ratcliffe’s impressive track record across other sports as something that can only help the club rediscover their past glories, after purchasing a 25% stake in the club last month.

Of course, he’s visited the club. He’s already introduced himself to us,” Casemiro said in an interview with CNN.

“I think with his winning mentality and his wins in all sports, it’s always very important to have people that want to continue growing.

“With his experience, he’ll return Manchester United to the highest possible level. We are very hungry to learn, grow and take the club to the highest place.”

United currently languish in eighth place, 16 points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool, but Casemiro still believes that the Dutchman is best placed to turn around the club’s fortunes.

“I’m not the person who decides who should be manager,” the Brazilian said

“We have qualified people to decide that, but he showed last season he can grow Manchester United. Last season we had really good growth and the team was trending upwards.

“Of course, Manchester United always needs more and more and always needs to be winning but we showed last season that we are capable of achieving great things.”

“Of course. I’m very happy at Manchester United,” he said.

“As I’ve always said, the fans have always helped me. The club is always good to me. I’m enjoying the Premier League. I’m enjoying the club. Without a doubt, it’s a pleasure for me to play for Manchester United.

Marcus Rashford was dropped from the Manchester United squad for the second time this season after reports that he was out late in the evening in Belfast, and then reported as ill to the club on Friday

Manchester United have said that Marcus Rashford has “taken responsibility for his actions” after claims he was out at bars late on Wednesday and Thursday.

The England striker missed training with the club on Friday, having told United that he was ill.

That came as reports surfaced that the 26-year-old forward had been in Belfast last week, and photographs appeared to show him out on the town.

Rashford was not part of the squad that beat Newport County 4-2 on Sunday evening, and when questioned about the matter, manager Erik ten Hag would only say that it was an “internal matter.”

In a statement on Monday evening, the club said: “This has been dealt with as an internal disciplinary matter, which is now closed.”

Rashford is now back in training and could be part of the squad for United’s away match against Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League this Thursday.

Arsenal are reportedly monitoring Ivory Coast star Ousmane Diomande and have sent scouts to watch the youngster in action at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The Sporting defender, who has a release clause of £68 million, is also said to be attracting interest from several top clubs from around Europe.

Arsenal have reportedly sent scouts to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in the hope of getting a closer look at Ousmane Diomande.

“The Ivory Coast youngster is being tracked by a host of top European sides, with Gunners sporting director Edu weighing up whether to beat his rivals to the punch by triggering his release clause.

The prospects of Arsenal stumping up £68million to prise Diomande away from Sporting before the end of the month are slim. But the north Londoners are among those posturing ahead of a hard-fought transfer battle in the summer.

Portuguese outlet A Bola claims that Chelsea, Newcastle, Manchester City, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Juventus are all keen on the 20-year-old. Arsenal are also involved, and Edu reportedly has eyes on Diomande during his AFCON escapades with Ivory Coast.

Scouts are believed to be on a ‘special mission’ to compile ‘detailed reports’ on the centre-back, who moved from Danish side Midtjylland to Sporting in a bargain £6.4m deal last year.

The Portuguese giants are poised to turn a monster profit if their exciting talent continues performing at a high level for the remainder of the season.

Several months after leaving Manchester United, David de Gea could be set for a return to football.

The 33-year-old is said to be in discussions with Saudi Pro League side Al Shabab, who are also being linked with several high-profile players.

As a free agent De Gea has been linked with various moves, with reports suggesting Al-Nassr had approached the former Spain international back in November.

Bringing in De Gea would mark just the latest transfer coup for Al-Shabab who are signing Ivan Rakitic from Sevilla and have been discussing a move for Newcastle’s Miguel Almiron.

They are also considering Chelsea winger Hakim Ziyech who is on loan at Galatasaray.

Ziyech was allowed to depart Stamford Bridge this summer with incoming boss Mauricio Pochettino not figuring the Morocco international into his plans.

The 30-year-old’s involvement since arriving in Turkey has been curtailed by injuries, but he did start in the club’s clash with Man United in November, netting twice and notching an assist in the 3-3 draw.
