Liverpool have agreed compensation with Feyenoord over their move to hire Arne Slot as their new manager

Liverpool has reportedly agreed to a compensation package with Eredivisie side Feyenoord that will allow Arne Slot to replace Jurgen Klopp.

According to multiple reports, Slot can now become Liverpool manager following the conclusion of Feyenoord’s season, having already expressed a desire to join the club earlier this week.

He will be the replacement for Klopp, who announced in January that he would be leaving Liverpool at the end of the current campaign.

Slot has been at Feyenoord since 2021, helping the club win the league title last season.

The Dutchman’s team are second in the table in their current campaign and won the Dutch Cup last weekend following a 1-0 victory against Nijmegen.

Liverpool had also considered Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Amorim and Bayern Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso, with the latter publicly confirming he had chosen to stay at his current club rather than move to the Premier League.

Jurgen Klopp is “more than happy” for Arne Slot to replace him as Liverpool manager at the end of the season

Klopp is due to leave Anfield after nine memorable years in the host seat and gave his seal of approval for the current Feyenoord boss to take the reins on the red half of Merseyside.

The German was addressing the media in his press conference ahead of the match away at West Ham United:

Klopp: “I’m not involved in the process, but I like a lot about it if he is the one and wants to take the job.”

“I like the way his team plays football. All the things I hear about him as a guy – a good guy. Some people I know, know him. I don’t know him, but some people who know him say he’s a good guy.”

“I like that a lot. So a good coach, and a good guy. Looking forward to the club, if he is the solution, if he is the man, I am more than happy.”

“Best job in the world. Best club in the world and it helps, obviously, with not finishing on a high, it looks like.”

“Great job, great team, fantastic people. [Slot] ‘would’ be taking a really interesting job.”

Klopp is hoping to end his tenure at the club with a second Premier League title, but those aspirations took a major hit following a 2-0 derby defeat to Everton at Goodison Park on Wednesday.

The result leaves Liverpool three points adrift of league leaders Arsenal, while Manchester City sit second and two points ahead of the Reds with a game in hand.

Arsenal hope to keep Gabriel away from the Saudi Pro League

Arsenal defender Gabriel has been impressive this season, as the Brazilian has established a strong partnership alongside William Saliba.

The player is now in talks with the club about extending his contract, after interest from Saudi Arabia last summer.

Arsenal have opened contract talks with centre-back Gabriel.

The Brazilian’s current deal is due to expire in 2027, but he is set to be rewarded with improved terms after a string of excellent performances this season.

Gabriel has been a regular for Arsenal and has helped the Gunners climb to the top of the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta’s side have the best defensive record in the top flight, largely down to Gabriel’s formidable partnership with fellow centre-back William Saliba.

Gabriel attracted interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia last summer, but Arsenal showed no interest in letting him go.

David de Gea could soon be back in action

Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea could finally be ready to make his comeback.

The Spaniard has trained with Altrincham, his local side, and suggested that he could be ready to get back to action.

David de Gea has hinted he may be about to return to football after taking part in a training session at an English non-league club.

The Spanish goalkeeper was part of the last title-winning Manchester United squad.

The 33-year-old was linked with Saudi Arabian outfit Al-Shabab and Newcastle following an injury to their No.1 Nick Pope but neither move materialised.

More recent reports have emerged that he could be heading back to his homeland to join Real Betis.

Earlier this week he teased a return by issuing a three-word update on his future as he shared a video of himself training.

That clip was filmed at his local non-league side Altrincham, who are battling for promotion via the National League play-offs.

De Gea has now dropped another hint that a move could be on the cards by sharing another video along with a “loading” graphic of himself training on the pitch at their J Davidson Stadium.
